An electric car

with a subsidy

Subsidy for the purchase of an electric car

From 4 June 2020, private individuals will be eligible for a subsidy of €4,000 when leasing or purchasing a new electric car. The subsidy for a second-hand electric car is €2,000. This means that the subsidy for electric cars for private individuals (subsidie Elektrische Personenauto’s Particulieren) is now final.

Driving electrically within reach of a larger group

Driving electrically is quieter and cleaner and emits half as much CO2 as a car that runs on fossil fuel. In the Climate Agreement it has been agreed that electric driving should become accessible to more people. Currently, it is mostly people who drive for business purposes who choose electric cars. But this new subsidy scheme will make electric driving more attractive to a larger group of people.

Terms and conditions

Not all electric cars are eligible for the subsidy. The car must:
  • Be fully electric (hybrid cars are not eligible)
  • Have a driving range of at least 120 kilometres
  • Have a list price (new price) between 12,000 and 45,000 euros

Applications possible from 1 July

Private individuals can submit their application online on the website of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) from 1 July. Buyers can already apply for a subsidy for cars sold or leased from 4 June onwards. The scheme runs until 1 July 2025.

Which cars are subsidized?

If you'd like to know which cars are eligible for the subsidy scheme, take a look at Autolijst SEPP 2020. Here you will find brands, models, and types of electric cars that are recognized by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl) as being eligible for the subsidy.
