Velocity in Parkstad: get on the pedals
Do you live or work in Parkstad and come to work by public transport? Cover the last mile with the Velocity E-bike. The electric share bike is also very suitable for a day trip. From now on, hills are a piece of cake and bringing your own bike is no longer necessary. Velocity is the first electric bike sharing system in the (eu)region, an emission-free, healthy and affordable way of transportation.
Where are the e-bikes located?
Velocity currently has 26 sub-stations in Parkstad located in Heerlen, Kerkrade, Beekdaelen, Voerendaal, Landgraaf, Brunssum and Simpelveld.
The stations are realized at public transport hubs where so-called mobility hubs can be created. Here it is possible to switch from the e-bike to public transport or to an (electric) shared car. In addition, there are stations at larger institutions such as the Zuyderland hospital, the Brightlands Smart Services Campus and Hogeschool Zuyd, among others, and five stations at business parks: Emma Heerlen, Trilandis, De Koumen, ©Mill and De Beitel.
Booking and paying
Reservations and payment are made through an app. The cost is:
- € 1.50 per half hour (basic rate).
- € 28.00 for the Velo30 rate*. This 30-day monthly subscription includes the first 30 minutes of use (basic rate). After the first 30 minutes you pay €1.50 per half hour again.
- € 224 for the Velo365 rate subscription*. You can then use Velocity's share e-bikes for free for the first 30 minutes for a year. After the first 30 minutes, you will be charged the basic rate of €1.50 per half hour.
*With the subscription forms, each of the first 30 minutes per ride is free, meaning that you can make several rides per day.
At an average speed of twenty kilometers per hour (including stops at traffic lights, etc.) a cyclist can cover about ten kilometers in that time. Pre-registration is necessary. This can be done by downloading the Velocity mobility app from the app store or via velocity-limburg.nl. The minimum age for registration is 18. Young people between the ages of 16 and 18 need parental consent.
Ambition: euregional e-bike sharing system
The ambition is to eventually expand the e-bike sharing system within Parkstad Limburg. It is also intended to scale up to the Heuvelland, the rest of South Limburg and other parts of the Euregion, creating a single e-bike sharing system with connections across national borders.
